Description

In the monograph "Ukrainian folk women's jewelry of the 19th - early 20th centuries." for the first time, an attempt was made to comprehensively cover this bright phenomenon of folk art, which has deep traditions. They were formed in the development of many types of artistic creativity: processing of stones, metals, glass production, weaving, embroidery, beadwork, various types of home handicrafts and trade relations with other countries. Ukrainian folk women's jewelry is an inseparable component of clothing, and therefore an attribute of rites, customs, and beliefs. Jewelry accompanied a woman almost throughout her life, so they are a source of valuable information about everyday life, ethnic norms and aesthetic preferences of different social strata of Ukrainian women. This research by Hanna Vrochynska is devoted to the ornaments, the history of their development, the materials from which they were made, their forms, ornamentation, coloring, and their role in the decorative and figurative structure of women's outfits. The book is richly illustrated: the Museum of Ethnography and Crafts (Lviv), the Museum of Ivan Honchar (Kyiv), the Chernihiv Historical Museum (Chernihiv) and private collectors provided their jewelry collections. Many pages of the book, including the Introduction and Conclusions, have been translated into English by Danylo Dmytrykov (USA). Format: 250* 310 mm
