CASIO Collection STANDARD A159WA-N1JH Digital Watch Silver Made in Japan Description The Casio A159 is a rare and valuable wristwatch produced domestically in Japan. While other “Cheap Casio” models are manufactured overseas, the A159 is made at Casio’s Yamagata factory. According to a 2018 press release, Casio aimed for a monthly production volume of 100,000 units. With production efficiency tripled and costs halved, the expenses were reduced to levels comparable to Chinese factories. Casio’s strategy was to achieve both the high appeal of “Made in Japan” and the low costs typical of overseas production—demonstrating the company’s serious commitment to this model. That said, the watch is curiously not available for sale within Japan. Its unchanged retro design since its release in 1989 (Heisei 1) is a key part of its appeal. Abroad, it is affectionately known as part of the “Casio Vintage” series. The A159 shares the same case as the 158, but features a different dial and band design, giving it a slightly more refined look. The existence of a gold version also makes the A159 unique. In terms of functionality, it inherits the usability of the 158, making it a quintessential representative of the “Cheap Casio” series.
