Description

Vintage Satsuma Style Cobalt Blue & Gold Gilt Ceramic Incense Burner Jar w/ Lid. Use: Ideal as a decorative object, a trinket box, or an incense burner due to the pierced lid design. This beautiful decorative jar, approximately 7 inches tall with the lid on and 5 inches in diameter, features a vibrant cobalt blue glaze on the front, and detailed, hand-painted floral motifs. It is topped with an intricate metal filigree lid, suggesting use as an incense burner (Koro) or potpourri holder. Material: Glazed porcelain body; ornate metal (likely nickel) lid. Decoration: Hand-painted with multi-color stylized flowers, extensive gold gilt accents, and raised enamel work (moorage style). Use: Ideal as a decorative object, a trinket box, or an incense burner due to the pierced lid design. Marks: Marked on the base with internal control numbers "1167/M66", which are common manufacturer's marks. Condition: This is in good vintage condition. There are 2 areas along the rim that have broken off as pictured. The gold gilt is worn in areas as expected with a vintage piece. The colors are a little worn in areas. Please examine all pictures as they help with description of the condition. The style is indicative of vintage export ware, often attributed to Moroccan or Japanese (Satsuma Style) manufacturing from the mid-to-late 20th century.
